Personality:
General Character Traits:
Samuel is ambitious, but not in the classical sense of wanting power for the sake of power. He has a firm set of standards and beliefs and truly feels that they are best suited. But his dedication to his work, even if it is work that he would prefer not to be doing, comes first. In this way he is a man of compromising principles — he places duty to his job above what he sees as personal duty.
Samuel puts much effort into being polite, even genial and pleasantly mild to those around him, simply for the sake of common decency. And even though sometimes he can be impatient with those around him, he always tries to remember to offer a kind word when appropriate.
Likes:
Samuel likes working. He brings his work home with him, on vacations (when he must take them), and on lunch breaks. He enjoys social occasions, despite his own feeling of being awkward socially. On the off chance he is finished with his work, he enjoys a good book, listening to the Wizarding Wireless, or taking in a concert in London. He enjoys a good meal, having been raised on good food first from his mother's recipe box, and then at Hogwarts. He also likes a good workout, often going for a run on the banks of the Thames or to the gym after work to stay in shape. Samuel likes Quidditch and occasionally returns to Brighton and Hove to watch the local team. On a most personal side, Alex is one to get along with people, especially with the ladies. He's an expert at charming almost any woman no matter what it takes.

Habits/Mannerisms:
Everywhere he goes, Samuel carries with him his locking briefcase, which contains a spare toothbrush, toothpaste, a leather-bound diary, a modern fountain pen (so he can write on the go without a quill to make him look bizarre), and a packet of Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans.
The Beans he carries because of his sweet tooth--he has a habit of snacking on the beans on the way to work, in the elevator, or at his desk. They are, one might say, his vice. He carries the toothbrush and toothpaste so that he can brush after eating the beans, so as not to get cavities.
Strengths:
Aside from actual moderate physical strength and a hearty constitution (Samuel keeps himself in good shape), Samuel has proven to be a hard worker who is dedicated to the task at hand. He is loyal, almost to the point of folly when it comes to his family. He is relatively intelligent, and has a firm grasp of his surroundings and circumstances.
Weaknesses:Samuel is blind when it comes to his family. Of course no one is perfect, but he has a tendency of making excuses for some of his brother’s more outlandish (and illegal) behavior. He is also, to some extent, inapproachable because of his dedication to work which leaves occasions for social contact to be a secondary concern. He is something of a workaholic, though he qualifies research for his developing plans with regards to overthrow of the statute as 'work'. As such, he is not adept at social graces, though he does make a point to be polite.

Background Story:
Samuel was the second son of Charles and Sarah Abbot Zashterly. As the years went on it became obvious that he had more of the qualities that his dad Samuel wanted in a 'Zashterly'.
Daniel Zashterly's Early Years
His brother Daniel was a joker from early age and often would play pranks on anyone including members of his own family. He was more open-minded, less judging of others, and more lazy in general. Daniel always was big bodied even as a boy and he ended up getting the nickname 'Daniel The Giant'. He was not stupid but he just didn't really have the same amount of intelligence as his younger brother Samuel. He has always been a great lover of food, he ate all the time, and loved his moms cooking the best. He had always been a dreamer and all his school years the teachers would say he never paid attention in class. He was a bully and a leader when it came to his childhood friends. He often would get his younger brother Samuel involved in his pranks when he could, though his brother just wasn't into it as much. Daniel never really seemed to take to his family's Pure Blood supremacist ideas and thought it was rather stupid.
Samuel Zashterly's Early Years
It was rather Samuel who from an early age took more to his family's standards and beliefs. Even from a young age he only made friends who were Pure Blood as his family's supremacist ideas demanded. His father took a liking to him much more noticing he tended to align more with his own principals. Samuel made a childhood friend early on of a new family who recently moved from Germany of Henry Abbot. That friendship was to last all through his years at Hogwarts and even after till Henry Abbot died from attack by Death Eaters.
Samuel and Henry were typical boys rambunctious and roudy who got into mischief. Though they were generally good-natured and both followed their families traditions. They were active in sports, including Quidditch with some of the other wizarding families in the area, in the secluded glades of the nearby forest. Samuel continued to play sports and games with his friend Henry, but he was never all that interested in the high jinks that his Henry had gotten into. He had been a willing accomplice, but (as his mother used to say admiringly and only half-jokingly), “he doesn’t have the criminal mind for it”.
Daniel's Years at Hogwarts
Daniel was 7 years older then his brother Samuel and started Hogwarts when Samuel was only 4. Daniel always seemed good at raising trouble at Hogwarts and being a bully. Although his parents were concerned by his increasingly dangerous and alarming pranks and stunts, they felt that his high-spirited would shortly die down and he would buckle down to work but instead he just kept ending up in detention.
Daniel and a group of Slytherins decided to play a prank which resulted in the serious injury to a muggle born Ravenclaw first year. The boy’s mother, incensed at the injury despite assurances of relative safety, was extremely upset. Daniel, the leader of the pranksters, was expelled from Hogwarts due to his irresponsible actions and long list of offenses. His wand was confiscated and are parents sent him to a reform school.
Samuel's Years At Hogwarts
Samuel was always shy when at Hogwarts and didn't make many friends though he still had Henry Abbot. He would spend his time thinking and learning from experiences while doing his studies.
Once during a potions lesson, Samuel spilled a flammable ingredient on his robe's arm, and it caught fire. He still bears a scar on his forearm where he was burned. He would be always reading his school books wanting to know more and increase his magical abilities. In fact it was this constant reading that led him to once trip when reading while walking down stairs. The trick stairs caused him to trip and get a scar on his hairline.
Samuel would play practice Quidditch with friends or study or peruse Hogsmeade. After being deprived sweets by his mother's strict regime against candy, Honeydukes was like an explosion of temptation to Samuel. It was there that he discovered his love for Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans. He would eventually come to keep a box on hand at all times.
Beyond that, Samuel's school years were generally uneventful. He did well in most of his classes (his weakest were Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology, and Potions) and corresponded regularly with his parents and siblings. Throughout his school years, he found himself attracted to several of his fellow students, but Samuel was hardly ever confident enough to make a move. However, he had a few 'dates' (outings to Hogsmeade with a young witch) but he never felt a connection with any of the girls beyond the physical and he felt that all of them could do better with a more outgoing and interesting companion. At this point, he wasn't very interested in the idea of a relationship anyway, and Samuel felt that his time was better served studying and preparing for exams, especially in his later years at Hogwarts.
In his sixth year he particularly enjoyed History of Magic. The intrigue and maneuvering of the wizarding world was fascinating to him and he felt himself drawn to the idea of participating in the institutions that shaped wizarding history: the Ministry of Magic and other organizations. After reaching the appropriate age, Samuel began taking apparation classes. The discomfort associated with apparation and the possibility of unnecessary splinching if one wasn't careful made Samuel wary of this method of travel. Even though he did earn the license to apparate, it is his least favorite mode of transportation and he uses it only when absolutely necessary. By the time he graduated, he had earned NEWTs in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Transfiguration, Muggle Studies, and History of Magic.
Courtship of Sarah Abbot
Samuel’s marriage to Sarah Abbot was not the result of a whirlwind romance, but rather the culmination of several years of careful courtship. He had met Sarah Abbot through his friendship with her brother Henry Abbot. Simply put, Samuel and Sarah were a ‘good match’. He was of a pureblood, upper-middle class British family and she of a pureblood German family which matched the Zashterly's well in wealth (being slightly less well-off than the Zashterly's) and status. Both were Slytherins at Hogwarts and while they paid little attention to each other while at school (for the two were separated in age by four years), Samuel made an effort to contact Sarah after he had graduated, writing to her regularly. After five years of exchanging letters, Sarah graduated and the two were married about a year later.
Samuel And Sarah's Early Married Life
Charles and Gweneth had been saving money for a graduation gift for all of their children. The gift they gave Samuel was enough to find a shabby flat in Pimlico for him and Sarah and for food enough to last until he found his first job.
After taking the Knight Bus to London and setting up his apartment, Samuel applied for a job with the Improper Use of Magic Office at the Ministry of Magic. He was hired and began training for a job investigating violations of the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery and the International Confederation of Wizards’ Statute of Secrecy.
Samuel settled into a steady routine for work, and found that he enjoyed the work and environment very much. He worked hard and dedicated himself to performing his duties well. He was social at work--never to the point of distraction, but he did enjoy conversing with fellow Ministry officials. He relished being 'in the know' and having social contacts. It was all so different from school and family life, and he enjoyed the experience.
Samuel's New Job And Bright Future
Then his luck turned for the better and in a whirlwind campaign he ran for the prime Job as Head Minster of Ministry of Magic and he got the job. Now that he and his wife Sarah were well off they were able to settle comfortably into a new home of a reasonable size and it wasn’t long before they were expecting their firstborn. Richard was a welcome addition to the small family and was educated from an early age in the ideals that the Zashterly family upheld, especially those of Pure Blood supremacy. Three years later, Sarah gave birth to the Zashterly’s second child; a girl, Jessica . Two years later was born their last child a boy which they named Jeffery.
Samuel Zashterly Dies
When Jessica was four, the Zashterly family was shaken by the accidental death of Jessica’s grandfather, Charles Zashterly. In a momentary lapse of concentration, Charles managed to fill his tea cup with a fast-acting poison rather than tea and died before he could get to an antidote. As in accordance with Charles’ wishes, the house passed into possession of Samuel, rather than his older brother.
Jessica's, Richard's And Jeffery's Early Years
Jessica's upbringing, much like her brother’s, was one based on strict tradition. Jessica was brought up to understand her station in the world; who she was and where she belonged. Unlike her brother, Jessica would never pass on the family name, but she was still expected to uphold their reputation. Ideals of Pure Blood supremacy and themes of wealth and status were as much a part of her early education as reading or arithmetic. By the time Jessica could talk, she could already distinguish her superiors from her equals and, most importantly, those that were below her.
When Jessica was two, the Zashterly's were joined by another child, their youngest, Jeffery. For the first couple of years after Jeffery’s birth, Jessica preferred to play with her older brother Richard or by herself. Once Jeffery had gotten past what Jessica referred to as the ‘annoying baby stage’, the two became a lot closer than Richard and Jessica had ever been, probably partly due to their closeness in age.
The Zashterly Children led a largely secluded life, mainly confined to the house and garden. There was little opportunity to mix with other children, as the Zashterly's had firm ideas about who were worthy playmates, and so aside from the occasional play date with children from an appropriate family, the Zashterly were kept mainly to themselves. Jessica and Jeff kept themselves busy playing with the large collection of toys that the Zashterly house boasted; amongst Jessica’s favorites was an enchanted theatre which she and Jeff spent hours making up plays for and acting out to an obliging (although possibly grudgingly so) Richard.
The Zashterly children were educated mainly by their mother, with lessons from a tutor twice weekly. Jessica was a good student although she often lacked the patience and concentration to see projects through till the end and lost her initial enthusiasm and zeal. When she did stick things through, the results were good, Jessica was quick to learn and rarely struggled with subjects.
Jessica was eight when Richard left for Hogwarts and although his absence was peculiar to begin with, she soon grew used to it; after all, she had always been closer to Jeff than Richard anyway. Jessica had also always been quite adept at making her own entertainment. She was quite happy tucked away somewhere by herself with her nose in a book, a sketchbook in hand, or playing piano to herself. Although Jessica got on well with the other children that their family knew, Jessica was always content to be by herself and never needed anyone else around her.
